Introductory computing skills for researchers: Software Carpentry with RSLondon¶
Research Software London is a community to support the use and development of research software in London and the South East. Since 2019, RSLondon has run a number of Software Carpentry workshops to teach introductory computing skills to researchers. ITSR have been involved in these efforts, providing instructors and helpers at each of these workshops.
On 8, 9 and 10 December 2021, RSLondon ran one of these workshops online, teaching the Bash shell, Version Control with Git and Plotting and Programming in Python.
More than 50 people registered to attend this workshop, with six London institutions represented. Over the years 30 people from QMUL have registered for these workshops, but this time there were no attendees from QMUL: it will be great if future sessions see a good turnout from here!
To be informed of the next workshops, please sign up to the #events
channel
in our Slack workspace or RSLondon's
mailing list. You can also contact
us and look at RSLondon's events
page.
Equally, if your research group or department has a large number of people interested in this Software Carpentry training, please contact us: perhaps ITSR can run a workshop just for you. We also offer related training if you'd like to develop those skills beyond the introductory level of the Software Carpentry lessons.
